Frequently Asked QuestionsThis is a list of questions often asked about our web site content-management products. Wouldn’t it be great if I could update my web site myself? We all recognise that a web site with out-of-date and irrelevant information is a pretty poor advertisement for a business. Getting them updated, however, can be a time-consuming affair, and usually means that you are reliant on somebody else. At JK Internet we decided it would be far easier if clients could update their own sites whenever they wanted, and that’s why we developed JK CONTENTmanager. Do I need technical knowledge in order to use it? No. JK CONTENTmanager is quick and easy to use. You don’t need to learn how to design web pages or upload files. The basic structure of the site remains intact whilst you alter the text, graphics or any other content whenever you wish. We provide training and are very proud of our support service. Does this mean that potentially anyone in the company could change the site? No. Changes to the site are made using an administration page, which is accessible only to authorised users. Nominated site administrators simply require a password and web access in order to make changes. But won’t it be very time-consuming if I have to update timed information myself? No. JK CONTENTmanager does it for you. Any item on your site can be ‘timed’ to start and finish on a particular date. This is particularly useful for news items and events because as soon as the date has expired the item is automatically removed from your site. Does the site ‘go down’ while I’m making changes to it? No. You can edit and approve one version of the site whilst the public continue to view the original. When you have completed any changes, a click of the mouse makes the new version ‘live’. But don’t panic if you change your mind – you can still roll back to the old version at any time. Does it matter how big my web site is? No. JK CONTENTmanager is flexible enough to integrate with sites of all sizes. Some have just a few pages, whilst others have thousands. JK CONTENTmanager stores web site content in its own database, but can also use external data, searching, displaying and even editing information from other databases. Some areas of my site are only accessible to certain customers. How will JK CONTENTmanager affect this? Access to particular pages of the site can still be restricted to registered users. JK CONTENTmanager can also track visitors to the site and will recognise them when they return. Who uses JK CONTENTmanager? Businesses of all sizes, from small one-man-bands, to large institutions such as the Royal College of Music and corporates like Caterpillar Trucks. JK CONTENTmanager has also proved extremely popular with design agencies, who find the added database capabilities afforded by JK CONTENTmanager invaluable, particularly as programming expertise is not required. You can find many examples of sites we have worked on if you look at the Samples page of our own web site. How reliable is the product? JK CONTENTmanager is an off-the-shelf product that has been repeatedly tried and tested with outstanding results. All features are written into the software, so you can be assured that you are not paying for development or being used as a guinea pig! What computer system do I need for JK CONTENTmanager? JK CONTENTmanager requires a Windows 2000/2003 server to be running Internet Information Server (IIS). A database connection to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or 2005. JK CONTENTmanager can be administered from most web browsers. I’ve seen other software packages called Content Manager. What’s different about JK CONTENTmanager? JK CONTENTmanager has been around for a lot longer than most other content management packages and offers proven success. We have listened to our customers’ needs and used our many years of experience in this field to provide a tool that actually benefits their businesses. In fact, we have yet to find a competitor’s content manager package that offers anything like the quality and flexibility of JK CONTENTmanager. |
